VA Expands Telehealth Services for Rural Veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs is launching an expanded telehealth initiative aimed at reaching veterans living in rural and underserved communities across America.
Starting this spring, the VA will deploy mobile telehealth units to 150 new locations, bringing virtual healthcare access to veterans who previously had to travel hours to reach the nearest VA facility.
The program includes mental health counseling, primary care consultations, and prescription management services. Veterans can schedule appointments through the VA mobile app or by calling their local VA medical center.
“Distance should never be a barrier to receiving the care our veterans have earned,” said VA Secretary. “This expansion represents our commitment to meeting veterans where they are.”
The initiative also includes partnerships with community health centers and pharmacies to serve as telehealth access points. Veterans in eligible areas will receive notification letters with information on how to access these new services.
For veterans interested in telehealth services, the VA recommends ensuring they have an updated MyHealtheVet account and a valid form of identification for their first virtual appointment.
